Championship Celebration

In the beginning of the season, the coaches promised the players that if they competed hard every practice and game, won the championship and maintained an undefeated record, they would receive a big pizza party.  Well deserved.

Junior League Rules:

1- Games consist of 4 quarters, each 7 minutes long in length.

2- It is the coaches responsibility to play every player on the team for at least one quarter a game.

3- Pressing is only allowed in the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter.  A team that is up by 10 or more points are not allowed to press.

4- All players must wear their uniforms.  Any team consisting of a player not wearing uniform will be issued a technical foul.

5- Everyone must follow the Code of Conduct Rules.

6- The goal of the Cliffside Park Recreation Department is to insure that each and every child has a positive experience playing any sport in the program, in hopes that the children not only learn the individual sport, but more importantly learn how to get along with others and learn that the game is not about winning at all costs.  A big part of the program is sportsmanship.

About Head Coach Koko Karajelian (ME)

The first time I picked up a basketball was when I was four years old and automatically I fell in love with the sport and it has been a major part of my life ever since.  My older brother really was the one that got me into basketball and taught me the basics of the game.  We would always watch the New York Knicks games and the Chicago Bulls games together as kids.  We would watch and then immediately try to imitate our heroes (such as Michael Jordan, Allan Houston, John Starks) outside on the court that my dad built for us.  As I became older my parents decided to enroll me into the Cliffside Park Recreation program, and when I was in fifth grade I too played for this league.  In fifth grade, I was able to hit the buzzer shot to win the championship game and remain undefeated at 21-0.  Ever since that day my confidence in this sport sky rocketed and my love increased.  I went on to play Varsity High School  basketball, and then later played for the FDU Devils in college.  I took up this opportunity to coach this year along with my best friends Joseph Kalachian and Richard Yenicag because I wanted to make an impact on the lives of these kids as well, and help them to become better and more confident players, and ultimately develop an undying love for the game.
